This article mainly talks about Piaget’s theories on child development and three kinds of knowledge: physical, social-conventional, and logico-mathematical (Peggy, 2017). Students will be encouraged to think what they perceived around them, and be familiar with the property of the object they encountered. Students learn by the mental process and from what they perceive about the world around them, namely cognitive theory. Therefore, teachers are suggested to provide sufficient knowledge physical activities when learn the science.
And this article also introduces due to students’ interests in creating collections, teachers can capitalize them and engage students in learning logico-mathematical knowledge through classification, seriation, number, spatial relationships, and temporal relationships (Peggy, 2017). Students in kindergarten are in the stage of preoperational, which is one of the four main, sequential stages of Piaget’s cognitive development theory. Kids at this stage begin to speak and use one-dimensional thinking, and can focus on one dimension on time. In addition, children move from skill to skill depending on many factors (Peggy, 2017). Therefore, the teacher should make considerate and comprehensive instructions and plans for the science class, to foster every student’s understanding of concepts of science. In my future class, no matter what kind of class, I will definitely apply the handling and manipulating materials into the class as needed as possible.
