This article provides ways to make a student-parent connection with school stronger. In particular there is a list of ten principles to provide effective teacher conversations with parents. The article then elaborates with seven strategies that use these ten principles. Although these ideas might mean extra work for the teacher initially, it pays off because studies prove that when parents are involved with their child’s learning positive results occur.

This journal article provides the “why” and “how” of teaching observational skills to students. The author provides four stages of observation that should be taught, according to Forman and Kuschner (1977). I especially liked that the article asks teachers to “close the loop” by requiring students to provide evidence on any changes that they noted within their observation thereby teaching students how to create a baseline. While this article does not provide specific lessons on how to teach observation, it does offer a few examples.
