Science Sampler: Beyond Yellowstone

by: Sally Plumb

In 2001, Yellowstone National Parks’ education staff launched Windows Into Wonderland (WIW), a series of six internet-based, electronic field trips, or “eTrips,” designed especially for middle school students. Today 17 programs are available, many of which explore the park’s wildlife, geology, or ecology. The trips are guided by national education standards for grades 5-8, with correlations provided to standards for science, mathematics, technology, and other subjects. A special “For Teacher’s” section also includes web links, references, glossaries, suggested discussion points, and pre-and post visit lesson plans.
