This article describes how using art can be a way to interest students to learn about birds. There are three steps to this process. Each step might contain multiple activities. Students are introduced to the biology of birds through research, bird watching trip in the neighborhood, and visits to the zoo and such. Students then visit an art or history museum to see the connection between art, science and society. Lastly students create an art exhibit to use the art they saw to explain the biology of birds. This is an interesting approach that relies heavily on field trips. I see problems with amount of time needed and of course with the budget problems in some of today’s public schools. A teacher can overcome this by taking photos from those locations and presenting them to their students. This would save time and money but be infinitely less of an experience and of a student centered activity.
