While not a rigorous treatment of the subject, the authors detail a pedagogically sound method to get students up and running in the genre of scientific writing. Concept mapping is briefly eluded to; a more thorough discussion would have been in keeping with current brain research. The article is very easy to understand and to implement; however, there are no provisions listed for ESL students or accommodations made for different levels of learners. The checklist provided for students is a good tool for keeping them on track with their writing assignments. I expect that this was supposed to take the place of a rubric. The article is not a stand-alone document, but an essential one to include in your lesson plan portfolio.
