This article advocates students creating their own questions and investigations from exploring and making observations from environments outside of a school classroom. It could be an area of the schoolyard that is somewhat a natural site or even a nearby park or forest. In this way students are actually emulating the role of a scientist. There is one diagram that was especially interesting in the article where the author transforms the “scientific method” into real scientific thinking or basic scientific inquiry. The other thing that is great about this article is the outline-rubric (figure 2) that the author set up as the criteria for student presentations including introduction, methods, results, conclusions and references.
