I am a huge fan of using sorting to help students build understanding of content via this kinesthetic and peer learning activity. This activity uses scaffolding by having students engage in several different sorts that build upon each other. As such, it allows the teacher to check for understanding as students progress from successfully completing one sort to the next. While the content I teach is not this advanced I can see myself using a similar sort for students to gain understanding of the different ways the periodic table is organized.
