This article is short and spunky and is bound to be a hit in a middle school or high school classroom. The article connects with the reader and allows one to become more curious about what goes into those TV shows and movies we enjoy watching so much! Katherine Lingenfelter's career as a television writer will be the talk of the classroom. The author discusses the good, the bad and the lonely. Referencing how blissful it is to have your ideas and writing evolve and make it to full production and viewership. She also discusses the hard work that goes into writing and how the actual writing and fine tuning of details can be a lonely endeavor. This reading could be incorporated into a lesson as a supplementary reading piece that could be used prior to a science experiment. The students could attempt to create their own science fiction story and use the information they’ve gathered during their research to support their stories authenticity or likeliness. The article provokes curiosity and will hopefully have students thinking about careers they might not have considered before. The Advice for the Students section is my favorite because it enforces how these careers are ones you have to try and try again in. Never be afraid of failure. It can take years to be working on the projects you really want to be on.
