This lesson asks students to consider the aspects of cell cycle regulation and feedback as they propose a mechanism to stop cancerous cell division with the strategic use of cell cycle regulators. The purpose of designing a cancer treatment protocol is to engage students in specific cell biology topics. Acting as cellular biology engineers, students will use their understanding of the cell cycle and cell differentiation to propose a plan to manipulate a cancerous cell culture. The lesson is recommended to be done within a unit about cell reproduction and differentiation.
