In this chapter, the “R” of reload is discussed. The critical aspect of reloading is that it provides Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) with opportunities to revisit words they have previously encountered within a lesson. Reload differs from the Rs introduced in earlier chapters in that it is context-reflective and focuses on one component of natural language—vocabulary. It makes use of a word wall to capture the important words that will be revisited throughout the lesson and unit. We recommend reading Chapter 1, which is included in this book selection and serves as an introduction and overview to Chapters 2–10. A materials list, teacher background information, safety notes, and standards are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Dedication, Preface, About the Authors, Our Stories, References, and Index.
