This chapter presents a case study on Combating Chronic Alcohol Abuse using the discovery engineering process. In this lesson, students explore the discovery of Antabuse as a drug treatment for individuals with chronic alcoholism. Students review Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data to analyze alcohol consumption, as well as for underage consumers of alcohol. They create a storyboard script for a Public Service Announcement to educate community youth on the dangers of alcoholism. Last, students design a novel treatment plan for individuals who suffer from chronic alcoholism.
