Color Designs

edited by: William C. Ritz and William Straits

This activity is for dipping paper towels and other materials in colored water to make designs and test absorption properties. Give children paper towels and encourage them to fold any way they want, and then to dip corners or sections into the different colors. Have them unfold their towels to see the design. Repeat this activity, but provide newsprint, tissue paper, wax paper, and coffee filters. Ask children to predict which will make the best designs. A materials list, internet resources, standards, and safety practices are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, About the Editors, Introduction, Simple Graphing for Young Children, Science Teaching Boards and Boxes, Basic Materials List, and Index.
