Does the Ocean Influence Our Weather or Climate?

by: Page Keeley and Laura Tucker

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about the connection between the oceans and weather and climate. The probe is designed to reveal how students think the ocean influences atmospheric conditions. Of all the influences on Earth’s weather and weather patterns, the ocean plays one of the most significant roles in determining the weather and climate. It is important that students understand that influence means having an effect on temperatures, wind patterns, and precipitation. This probe is best used with grades 6–12. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
