This chapter addresses experimental and field observations, which include aspects of Asking Questions and Defining Problems; Planning and Carrying Out Investigations; Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions; and Engaging in Argument From Evidence. It examines the importance of asking questions of observations rather than of the teacher or the textbook. But asking questions is only the beginning of investigation. The goal of the example activity design (EAD) is to learn to make observations, ask questions based on observations, and then answer the questions with new observations. A materials list, teacher background information, safety practices, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, About the Book, Introduction, and Index.
