by: Chelsey Dankenbring, Brenda M. Capobianco, and David Eichinger
edited by: Linda Froschauer

This chapter is a good introduction to the process of designing lessons. It provides a valuable way to start your journey through the many wonderful ideas shared in Bringing STEM to the Elementary Classroom, as well as generic strategies that you can use at many grade levels. An overview of engineering and the engineering design process is provided along with a description of the seven steps taken to develop a fifth-grade–level, standards-based engineering design task. Lessons provided, in combination with additional learning opportunities, can support teachers in developing STEM in their classrooms. A materials list, teacher background information, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Introduction, Acknowledgment, References, Internet Resources, and Index.
