Quantitative Traits (Student Edition)

by: Elizabeth Rice, Marianne Krasny, and Margaret E. Smith

This chapter focuses on Quantitative trait loci (QTL) studies—a way of investigating quantitative traits where many genes have an effect on a trait. The studies help plant breeders find the genes involved in quantitative traits that are controlled by many genes. Until recently, it was difficult to pinpoint the genes involved in quantitative traits, but with powerful computers and DNA markers, QTL studies are now possible.
