Scientists and Engineers Are PATIENT (Grades 3–5)

by: Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas

In this lesson, students learn that scientists and engineers are patient. They read about scientist Gregor Mendel in the book Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas. After reading, they create a model of inherited traits in a snow-people family to understand how offspring inherit characteristics from their parents. This selection highlights the practice of developing and using models, and it includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, and Index.
