We say it often, and the phrase appears in the National Science Education Standards and many state and local documents as well. “All students should have opportunities in science.” But that vision is harder to achieve in practice. It is especially challenging to design facilities that maximize opportunities for the diverse student populations that will enjoy them now and in the future. But since we know that facilities we build today will serve many more—and more diverse—students in the future, it is important to look at them through the eyes of students with individual needs.
