Most advanced science classes are not team taught. Although there may be several students with special needs in honors, gifted and talented, International Baccalaureate (IB), or Advanced Placement (AP) science classes, classroom instruction is typically conducted by a single science teacher. It is important to note that the requirements (and needs) of students with IEPs do not disappear once that student is in an advanced class. It is critical, therefore, for science teachers to understand how to meet these needs and to learn what resources are available to assist both students and teachers. This chapter provides an overview of how to include students with special needs in honors, gifted and talented, IB, or AP classes.
