Creative Writing and the Water Cycle

Science Scope—September 2001

Creative writing provides one strategy for helping students combine their powers of imagination with their arsenal of knowledge. Teachers also can use creative writing exercises to assess student understanding of science content. Use the story, “The Life of a Drop of Water” on pages 32–34 as a springboard for the following creative writing activity, which draws students in by taking advantage of their fascination with natural disasters and reinforces the concept of the water cycle.
