Chemistry Wrap Up

The Science Teacher—April 2000

Class activities and independent projects for high school students using household plastic wraps can help students understand more about the chemistry of everyday objects. The activities described in this article reinforce one of the fundamental principles of physical science—the relationship between observed properties and molecular structure of materials. The activities adhere to the National Science Education Standards because they deal with applied chemistry and link class work to the everyday experiences of students (National Research Council, 1996).
