Literature circles are like tiny book clubs. Within a group, students read the same books and rotate roles every time they meet in an effort to promote meaningful discussions. Two ways are described for designing these groups. They can be text centered or topic centered. The roles and their duties are listed in the article. After completion of assignment the group must then present what they learned. Although this is primarily an elementary school activity, I believe it would work in both middle and high school levels.

This article introduces the idea of using lIterature circles to motivate and engage students in meaningful science discussions. The author defines key terms and explains how to run both text-centered and topic-centered circles. In addition, the author provides presentation ideas. This is a excellent way to integrate science and language arts while engaging students in high-interest science learning.
