Inquiry Based Science has so much to offer for students and teachers alike. Allowing students to discover “wonderings” and “noticings” on their own and use that to drive a lesson is so powerful. This article demonstrates a perfect example of inquiry-based learning. Through magnet exploration students are able to question and notice why certain things are happening with magnets. Those wonderings led to testing ideas out which then led to more observations and probing. Sometimes it is hard to step away from the traditional role of teacher teaches and student listens. This article is a good resource for teachers to see how inquiry-based teaching can work.

The authors of this article stated the following..."By restructuring our lessons, using science talks, and listening carefully to our students, we were able to transform students’ surprises and wonderings into testable questions ...." This statement is very important to teaching younger students. They need time to explore or wonder about a science concept. Then following this up with questions gives the teacher an idea on where to go next and also to discover what the student has learned.
