This article helps students understand possible sampling errors that can occur in performing an experiment. The simple series of activities also helps students describe ways to eliminate sampling errors. While this article was designed for upper elementary students I can see it being very helpful in middle school as well. It will bring meaning to the statement that you need to do the measurements three times to make sure you are correct. Students hear this from their teachers but they don’t really understand why it is necessary.
