Each year the Science and Children journal shares a list of books with annotated bibliographies to consider for use in classrooms across America. In order to make the list, a trade book has to have substantial science content, contain information that is clear, accurate and up-to-date, and be free of gender, ethnic, and socio-economic biases among other criteria. The 2012 picks are highlighted in this article. It is a convenient way to peruse several preselected texts to consider for personal and professional libraries. Two that caught my eye are: The Plant Hunters: True Stories of Their Daring Adventures to the Far Corners of the Earth by Anita Silvey and Faces From the Past: Forgotten People of North America by James M.
