I think this would be an excellent idea to use in the classroom. I love learning about the history of things as well as how it has evolved from inception. The article states students begin by examining already familiar items, using scientific words to describe it and its functions . I think this is great because children get to think out side of the box and get those wheels turning. They will also get to learn how things change over time.

This lesson idea used through teaching through trade books is awesome! I did a similar lesson with a group of 1st grader and they LOVED it. It gets and keeps the students so engaged when the item is something they can relate to. Everyone should try this lesson in their classroom or even at home with their own children.
