What a refreshing idea. A health science class doing a Lab.! This is a lab designed to solve a mystery about fake urine samples and learning about ketenes. Students keep a journal and must reflect on their experiences doing the lab and what they learned. It is presented in full in the format of a mystery activity. The recipe for fake urine is also provided.

As I read the first part of the activity I was afraid it might not meet my expectations. I was very impressed with the thought-provoking questions posed to students and the authentic manner in which students approach this activity. This would be an excellent activity to use after studying various problems in nutrition (overeating, excessive dieting, etc). The only thing I wish the author had included was where to find yeast extract (check science suppliers).
