The words ‘bloodborne pathogens’ should strike a nerve with any science teacher. This article describes what they are, how they are transmitted, and what precautions teachers and students should take when possibly exposed to them. With the advent of AIDS awareness most teachers are now required by law to be informed routinely each year of the dangers. This article describes a series of possible activities students might experience in middle and high school that could possibly expose both students and teachers to this danger. More importantly, be aware of what to do if exposure should occur.
