This is a really great idea!! It incorporates CCSS and science content in a very creative way. Students choose a science concept and then write about it in first person. They can choose to brag or whine when impersonating the science concept.

Middle school student get to use their writing skills in the science classroom with a type of creative writing called “brags and whines”? As stated by the authors of this article this technique has been borrowed from social studies and could be described as ““comedic devices” where students write a narrative as if the topic itself is boasting or moaning to an exaggerated level.” The article elaborates on the steps to use to employ this technique and provides two samples of this sort of writing experience. There is a rubric to use. All in all, this seems like a fun way to get students to write more while learning science as well.
