Safe science facilities and actual science facilities are often very different. When considering new building or refurbishing facilities to meet safety requirements one has to consider the following four factors: student-teacher ratio, students-space ratio, facility layout, and storage space. Having been involved in the creation of a lab in a new school I am highly aware that the administration and architects are sometimes very ignorant of what is considered safe for both teachers and students. This article will provide knowledge and understanding of the necessity of these four factors to create the best environment for safe science experiences.
