Scientists and Engineers Are THINKERS (Grades 3–5)

by: Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas

In this lesson, students learn that scientists and engineers are thinkers. They read about inventor Philo Farnsworth in the book The Boy Who Invented TV. After reading, they create a new invention or a replica of an invention from recyclables or everyday materials and discuss how their invention might contribute to society. This selection highlights the practice of asking questions and defining problems, and it includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, and Index.
