It’s very daunting to consider completely changing the way your classroom is run. The author went back and forth many times in the month before school started before making the switch to mastery learning. The author knew my students would benefit, but it is a lot of work to set up the learning opportunities and quizzes in the first year. It was a bumpy road at first—figuring out all the different ways kids would try to cheat the system and finding the “bottlenecks” in the system. The results were well worth any bumps. In this chapter, the author reviews their observations from their Mastery Learning Classroom and discuss the second year and beyond.
