Teaching Science: A Historical Perspective

by: Ed Linz, Mary Jane Heater, and Lori A. Howard

It is the authors’ contention that a team of two teachers, one a science teacher with solid content background and the other a special-education-trained teacher, can create a particularly effective synergy to deliver science instruction to what is now often a classroom with a mixture of students, some of whom have special needs. In this chapter, the authors discuss the role of science in curriculum, development and impact of Science Standards, and the impact of high-stakes testing.
