Mapping the Seafloor

by: Paul D. Fullagar and Nancy W. West

In this activity, students will experiment with the old but still useful technique of using sounding lines to make seafloor maps. As is done often in science and in other fields, students will work in teams. They should observe that the number of measurements or the amount of data that they collect will have a huge effect on the success of a project, as can the cost of gathering that information.
