Bookstore FAQs

Members

I'm an NSTA member—do I get a discount?

Absolutely—20% off NSTA Press books and co-publications (items with stock numbers beginning with PB or PA), 10% on other titles, and 20% on NSTA Gear items.

Not a member? Visit www.nsta.org/membership to learn more.

Do institutional members also get the same discounts?

Yes, but you need to order by phone—call 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.

Payments & Discounts

I will be sending in a purchase order. What information do I need to include to ensure that I receive the fastest service?

Any purchase order submitted to NSTA should include the purchase order number, a bill-to and ship-to address, the signature of the authorizing official (or individual customer), and a list of the products and prices that are to be included in the order. Also, if you are using a member discount, be sure to include the full member name, the NSTA member number, and an e-mail address. Including just these basic facts should greatly speed your order.

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Nonmembers get a bulk discount on NSTA Press books according to the table below. You must purchase multiple copies of the same title or the same sets to get the bulk discount. (NSTA members get a 20% discount on their entire order, regardless of the number of copies of any particular item.)

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit card (AmEx, Discover, MC, Visa) or check—or send us a purchase order, and we'll bill your school or district.

Like most schools, mine is a nonprofit and does not usually pay sales tax. How do I avoid being charged sales tax?

NSTA is required to charge sales tax only for orders placed from Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and Arizona. If you are placing an order from either of those two states, please submit evidence of your school's tax-exempt status along with your order.

Questions about what information you need to supply? Call us at 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET for advice on the necessary documentation.

Orders

How will I know that my order has been filled?

We send you a confirmation e-mail. If you don't get one, e-mail us at orders@nsta.org or call 1-800-277-5300 between 9 and 5 ET.

How can I track my order?

E-mail us at orders@nsta.org, providing your confirmation and invoice numbers or your shipping address.

Do you have an order form I can print out to mail or fax in?

Yes, please click here to download a PDF of our order form. You can mail, fax, or phone in your order:

  • Phone: 1-800-277-5300 (US and Canada only) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET
  • Fax: 1-888-433-0526 (US and Canada only)
  • Mail: NSTA, P.O. Box 90214, Washington, DC 20090-0214

Shipping

What are my shipping options?

Regular delivery orders are sent via UPS (Note: UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. box) and take 7–12 days at most. For regular orders to any of the 50 states, your cost is 10% of the total. Expedited shipping is sent two-day mail and is charged a fee of 20% of the entire order All rush orders are billed at 30%.

Outside the 50 states, all shipments to Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico are treated as regular orders but billed at 15% of the total. International customers farther afield are strongly encouraged to purchase e-book versions—because print orders are subject to a 25% shipping charge.

Do you ship to other parts of the world?

Yes, though only our own titles (items with stock numbers beginning with PB).

BUT—due to high international shipping charges—it is usually much more economical for you to (a) select e-book versions of our titles or (b) order print books from our designated resellers abroad.

Sellers

I would like to sell NSTA books at my own store or through other channels. What kinds of discounts do you offer to resellers?

NSTA Press books are made available to resellers on a returnable basis at 30% off nonmember price. To qualify for the reseller discount, order must be at least 20 books—any mix of titles and types. The NSTA is unable to offer Acquired products—books not produced by NSTA—for resale. Likewise, our trade book Collections and ClassPacks (classroom supply kits) and other sole source items are not available to resellers. Resellers are responsible for all shipping charges and taxes.

  • Prior to making a return, please e-mail orders@nsta.org to request reseller return authorization and shipping instructions.  Reseller returns must be made within 30 days of receipt of purchased at non-member pricing, undamaged, unmarked (saleable) condition. Resellers must follow the reseller return process.

If you are interested in being an NSTA reseller, please contact resellers@nsta.org.

In North America, NSTA Kids titles are represented by IPG in the retail and wholesale markets. If you would like to purchase NSTA Kids books for resale, please contact:

Is my state or local chapter able to sell NSTA books at our event?

Yes, with our Science Store in a Box program, you can put amazing books in the hands of area teachers, while also raising funds for state or local programs.

You can choose from more than 300 NSTA Press titles—items with stock numbers beginning with PA or PB, including current bestsellers—at 40% off the nonmember price, plus shipping charges to a single location.

Ask the organizer of your state or district conference to follow these simple steps: First—at least six weeks prior to the event—contact Rick Bounds (via e-mail at rbounds@nsta.org or by phone at 1-703-312-9210). He will set up a convenient time to review the ordering process with the conference planner and to discuss any educational needs that are particularly important to attendees.

Your order must be placed no later than three weeks prior to your event.

Program Details:

  • All books ordered are nonreturnable—so we will work with you to order the titles and quantities most likely to sell.
  • If you run out of any book(s), attendees can use a special promotional code applicable for up to two weeks after your event. Orders must be placed online, and every customer receives member pricing—20% off the nonmember price on any NSTA Press book.
  • Receive damaged books? Return them to NSTA, with shipping charges paid by us, so long as we are informed upon initial receipt.

e-licenses

My school or district licenses e-books from other publishers—do you offer e-licenses?

Yes, NSTA now licenses its e-book titles so that you and your colleagues can share content within your school or even across an entire district. Depending on the size of your group, annual license fees can be as little as 10–30% of the cost of buying multiple copies of the print books outright. Licensing is currently available for several popular series, including the following:

Other bestsellers are available upon request.

For more information, please contact Emily Brady at sitelicenses@nsta.org or 703-312-9395.

Teaching a Course

I teach a course and am considering an NSTA Press book as a student text. Do you offer exam or desk copies for prior review?

Absolutely. We would be pleased to send you any NSTA Press title as a free e-version for your review. Please be aware, though—the link to the book is functional for only 30 days.

To submit a request, please e-mail us at pubsales@nsta.org—including each of the following items:

  1. Book title
  2. ISBN or Stock #
  3. Course name
  4. Projected enrollment
  5. Start date
  6. Your name and title
  7. Your institutional e-mail address
  8. Office or home telephone number, whichever is more convenient for you

After review, please let us know whether you ultimately select one or more of our titles for your course. When ordering, be sure to keep in mind the bulk discounts that may apply. (See above.)

Store Items

How do I return an item?

You may return any publication in saleable condition within 30 days of receipt.

NSTA will refund the purchase price in full for items over $10. Orders under $10 will receive account credit. To return an item, indicate the reason for the return, include the packing slip or invoice, and wrap the package securely.

You are responsible for paying the shipping and handling on the invoice and for shipping the package back to NSTA; we refund or credit the purchase price only. Certain sale items are nonreturnable. Returns made later than 30 days from your date of receipt will yield neither refunds nor credits.

Please fill out and submit the Permission to Return form and send it to orders@nsta.org before returning the items.

All returns must be sent to the address below. Returns sent to any other address will have a rerouting fee applied.

NSTA Returns Department
3280 Summit Ridge Parkway, Suite 100
Duluth, GA 30096

What happens if an item is out of stock?

You will not be charged for the item until we can fulfill that part of your order. The rest of your order will be shipped immediately, and you will receive the remaining item(s) as promptly as possible. If in doubt, e-mail us at orders@nsta.org or call 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.

As a fallback (if you're especially pressed for time and need a particular resource stat—or if the book is out of print), consider an e-book version. Cheaper, and in your possession all but instantaneously.

What if I can't find a catalog item in the online Science Store?

We're constantly refreshing our product list—some older items go out of print; others are replaced by newer editions. But feel free to e-mail us at pubsales@nsta.org to find out for sure.
