Rubric for Content Classification

Journal of College Science Teaching—November 2002

Are teaching strategies such as collaborative learning, student-centered classrooms, and guided inquiry always appropriate? How do we decide what topics to teach? The Rubric for Content Classification is a taxonomy of material covered in a general science course that offers a framework for discussing and choosing questions regarding curricular organization, classroom environment, and teaching and learning strategies. Topics are classified into the following four broad categories: techniques, conventions, data, and models.
