After the Bell: Adopting and observing

Science Scope—November/December 2000

Much of science requires long periods of observation, but students in traditional classrooms have limited opportunities to make scientific observations. An "adoption journal" provides practice in making these detailed observations in an unobtrusive, clearly specified format. The journal provides experience in measurement and metric units, basic observations of features, summarization, and writing skills. This article includes adoption journal assignments.
