Inquiry by Design: Creating a national and state standards-based high school science program

The Science Teacher—October 2001

In this article, the science coordinator examines the science program and wanders if it makes sense for student learning and if it could be adapted to meet state standards. The query was taken to the department and an agreement was reached to investigate the tenets of the science program. It was determined that the science program was based on few science education tenets. Together they created a national and state standards-based high school science program by integrating the science disciplines. The faculty was convinced by their research findings that the integration of the science disciplines was an ideal context for learning science and for meeting standards.
