Member Web Seminar

In this web seminar, science educators will gain strategies on how to effectively integrate case studies and case-based learning in their classrooms to support and enhance their instruction and increase student engagement with content. Through using the NSTA library of Case Studies, participants will further develop their understanding of the benefits of infusing case-based learning within their classrooms as well as virtual and non-virtual collaborative strategies for class participation. This web seminar will also focus on social justice-oriented case-based teaching and learning, by providing examples of cases that address medical racism, the disparity seen in the number of missing Indigenous and Black women and girls, and the opioid epidemic.

Participants will learn (how to):

  1. The benefits of teaching with a case-based model in science classrooms
  2. Identify career roles that students can inhabit while completing a case study, along with strategies for increasing engagement in those roles
  3. Introduce different types of virtual and non-virtual collaborative strategies in case-based learning
  4. Use case studies to teach science through a social justice lens

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live web seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.
