Assessment Literacy

by: Linda Froschauer and Mary L. Bigelow

Student learning is the ultimate goal of everything you do in the classroom. Assessment is the process of gathering information (or evidence) from a variety of sources to determine what students are learning in terms of knowledge and skills and how they can apply their learning to problem-solving or creative situations. Assessments can also provide feedback on the effectiveness of your learning goals, instructional strategies, and choice of instructional materials. This chapter provides information and ideas on assessment literacy that will prove helpful to the beginning teacher.
