Experiential Learning in a Large Introductory Biology Course

This chapter describes and discusses effective approaches to teaching a large, two-semester introductory college biology course at Syracuse University. The course offers many unusual and creative experiences that enhance student learning and create a motivational learning environment that will influence the future lives of students in a positive manner. The experiences focus on personal growth, reflection, and a desire to learn, as well as scientific content. All of the course features described in this chapter are transferable to other introductory college science courses.
