This book chapter has a great activity to demonstrate the spreading of "germs" in the general population. Everyone starts out with a cup with water in it. A few cups have sodium hydroxide solution in them also - the "germs". People walk around and mix their waters with others. At the end each person puts a drop of acid-base indicator in their cups to see who is now infected with the "germs". The author has also suggested various songs to play while doing this activity. This activity can lead to all kinds of health lessons on communicable diseases.
