From NGSS to Instruction in a Middle School Classroom

by: Rodger W. Bybee

For middle school science teachers, one of the most fundamental changes involves curriculum, instruction, and assessments. This chapter uses performance expectations from the life sciences as the basis for a description of how Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) might be translated to a middle school classroom. First, two performance expectations are introduced that describe competencies or learning outcomes for middle school life sciences and then a description of an instructional sequence, including an assessment. Teacher background information, standards, assessments, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, About the Author, Introduction, Appendix D, and Index.
