Prism Play

edited by: William C. Ritz and William Straits

This activity is about discovering that sunlight shining through a prism produces rainbow colors. Prisms work best in natural light so ask students to place pieces of white paper on the ground and show them how to hold their prisms so that the sunlight shines through the large side onto the paper. As they explore with their prisms, they may need some assistance in discovering exactly how to hold their prisms to see the colors of the rainbow. A materials list, internet resources, standards, and safety practices are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, About the Editors, Introduction, Simple Graphing for Young Children, Science Teaching Boards and Boxes, Basic Materials List, and Index.
