Scientists and Engineers Are EXPLORERS

by: Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas

In this lesson, students learn that scientists and engineers are explorers. They read about Kathy Sullivan in the book To the Stars: The First American Woman to Walk in Space, by Carmella Van Vleet and Kathy Sullivan. After reading, students make observations to determine the effect of sunlight on Earth’s surface. This book selection highlights the practice of asking questions and defining problems, and it includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, and Index.
