Scientists and Engineers Are UNITED

by: Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas

In this lesson, students learn that scientists and engineers are united. They read about the people of the Island of Samsø in the book Energy Island: How One Community Harnessed the Wind and Changed the World, by Allan Drummond. After reading, students learn how a group of citizens came together to solve a problem by building a model for wind energy. This book selection highlights the practice of developing and using models, and it includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, and Index.
