Solar Activity and Space Weather

by: Dennis Schatz and Andrew Fraknoi

This chapter only deals with the analysis of data as it relates to key phenomena on the Sun. It focuses on the sunspot cycle, space weather, and related concepts that are most accessible to middle school students. Only a subset of the concepts in the disciplinary core ideas—those concepts and phenomena related to the Sun, its activity cycle, and its occasional storms—is dealt with. A materials list, teacher background information, outcomes, and extensions are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, About the Authors, Introduction, Acknowledgment, References, Internet Resources, and Index.
