Teacher Action Research on Interactive Lectures: Engaging All Students in Verbal Give-and-Take

by: Ruth Trimarchi and Brenda Capobianco

Amherst Regional High School is a public school located within a five-college community in western Massachusetts. Most of the work outlined in this chapter springs from a course on Collaborative action research (Car). Conducting action research allows teachers to develop changes that measurably benefit students. Car has changed the way they teach—they not only implement interactive lecture techniques regularly, but continue to use the Car approach to explore, reflect upon, and critically analyze teaching practices.
