Water Mixtures

edited by: William C. Ritz and William Straits

This activity is for discovering what happens when different materials are mixed with water. Give children five cups, each filled halfway with water. Show them the materials you have—sand, salt, sugar, flour, pepper—and explain that they are going to see what happens when each one is mixed with water. After all materials have been tried and the water mixtures sorted, ask children to describe what they discovered. A materials list, internet resources, standards, and safety practices are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, About the Editors, Introduction, Simple Graphing for Young Children, Science Teaching Boards and Boxes, Basic Materials List, and Index.
