This case study provides a summary and history of a study on cholera. In this lesson, students explore how researchers developed a new solution to cholera outbreaks in some regions of the world. After watching women use their sari to filter insects and leaves out of drinking water, researchers discovered the same process could be used to remove cholera from the water. Students will learn how cholera affects people and how researchers are attempting to prevent cholera infections. They will test different types of fabric to use as filters and examine data from the sari study. Then, they will build their own water filter. A materials list, teacher notes, teacher background information, safety notes, standards, assessment, resources, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Authors, Acknowledgments, Introduction, Appendix, Image Credits, and Index.
